Intention
I love to read. Starting a new book, perusing a library or a bookstore, settling into a cozy spot are all simple pleasures that I enjoy. I also like the feeling of finishing a book. It gives me a sense of accomplishment. But sometimes I value the act of finishing (especially when my Libby holds are all coming up at the same time) and lose sight of enjoying the journey. I hope to use this space to pause at the end of a book and reflect for a moment.
I find that while I have read a lot over the years, there is little that I remember. There are some books that strike me so acutely in some way, or that make me feel so deeply, but a year later all I can remember is that it impacted me. In beginning the practice of writing here alongside or at the end of a book, I hope to accumulate a catalog of thoughts and ideas that I can return to that might otherwise disappear into the creases of my brain. Perhaps some of my musings will land with others as well.
Finally, a caveat. It is likely that some of my “reports” here will not be from books at all, but from other pieces of art or media I consume that keep me thinking about them, whether in profound or simple ways.
So with that intention set, onward.
