Pike Place Market
6 AM is a magical hour at the Pike Place Market in Seattle. The air is cool, the dawn light is soft, the smell of coffee and fresh baked goods floats from the shop’s open doors, and the vendors set up their stands in the sleepy quiet before the crowds arrive. It’s a photographer’s paradise. June was our first trip to the city and we arrived on a red eye flight at 5 AM, with nowhere to rest our heads until late afternoon. Brad had an engagement shoot scheduled in the market for mid morning so we decided to kill a little time scoping out the place. It turned out to be among our favorite moments of the trip.
Alaska is home to the world’s largest cabbage, but the fruit - most of which has to be shipped in on a barge - leaves something to be desired. Sinking our teeth into the juicy and sweet fresh local fruit was a near transcendent experience.
Market baked goods became a breakfast staple for us during the week
The rows and rows of flowers made me want to scoop them up in my arms and bury my nose in their beautiful blossoms.
Here's to dreams of a life where weekly trips to the market is the norm! Until next time Seattle...
